Reflection Box
Today we live in a fast paced, highly demanding and technologically driven world where we can go places by a mere click of a button. It has become very easy to get lost in the never ending days, weeks, months and even years.
In my opinion, it is important to take time to ourselves to self reflect on the meaning of our lives, our general state of mind and our physical and mental well being. For this purpose I have designed a meditation exercise using postcard sized cards with random words on one side, and the responses of people with different opinions about the given word on the other side. these cards would come in a box called the “reflection box”.
First of all, the contents of this box are meant to be used as a meditation excersise. Almost all individuals will at one point in their lives feel the need to express their feelings. Through this exercise I am trying to promote expressing ones inner thoughts but not in the traditional sense like talking, journaling..etc, but rather in a more personal manner.
Moreover, I propose that whenever the desire to reflect is felt that individual would open up the box and take out a card and read the word on it, then flip the card and read the random responses of different people to that word. My hope is that if they feel happy for instance, and read a sad or unpleasant response they might feel thankful for their current happy mental state, on the other hand if they are experiencing negative feelings and read a pleasant response they might change their perspective to a brighter one resulting in a more elevated mood.
I remember a quote by Margaret. J .Wheatley that says: “Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.”
